To ensure the long-term sustainability of the jungle ecosystem and provide a better experience for future travelers, the Tanjung Puting National Park Authority (Balai TNTP) under the Ministry of Forestry has officially announced routine periodic closures starting in 2027.

Scheduled Closure Dates (Starting 2027 Onward)
Starting in 2027, Tanjung Puting National Park will be temporarily closed to all eco-tourism activities twice a year:
- January 15 – January 31 (Every year)
- June 1 – June 15 (Every year)
Note: These closure dates will be implemented annually on the exact same schedule in 2027 and subsequent years.
Why Is Tanjung Puting Temporarily Closing?
This policy is established under the Head of Tanjung Puting National Park Office Decree (Keputusan Kepala Balai TNTP Nomor 37 Tahun 2025) regarding the Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) for Nature Tourism in Tanjung Puting National Park.
The decision was mutually agreed upon by key regional stakeholders, tourism associations (such as HPI, ASITA, ASTINDO, TCA, HKWK), and conservation partners (including OFI and OF-UK).
The periodic resting periods serve three crucial purposes:
- Ecosystem Recovery: Giving the rainforest, rivers, and wildlife a uninterrupted resting period to recover naturally from human activity.
- Trail Maintenance & Cleaning: Performing essential maintenance, trail clearing, and cleaning along visitor routes and ranger patrol paths.
- Enhanced Park Management: Allowing park authorities and rangers to conduct comprehensive wildlife monitoring, evaluation, and security patrolling to protect endangered species like the Bornean orangutan, proboscis monkey, and exotic birdlife.
How Does This Affect Your Travel Plans?
If you are planning a trip to Tanjung Puting in 2027 or beyond, make sure to schedule your tour outside of the closure periods (Jan 15–31 and Jun 1–15).
- Before Jan 15 or after Jan 31 (Late January / February)
- Before Jun 1 or after Jun 15 (Late May / Mid-June)
- All other months (March, April, July, August, September, October, November, December) remain fully open for booking!
