Experience the ultimate Borneo wildlife adventure with a perfect combination of the iconic Tanjung Puting National Park river cruise and the untouched rainforest of Sebangau National Park. This immersive journey takes you deep into two of Indonesia’s most important orangutan habitats, offering a rare opportunity to explore both the tranquil river ecosystems and the dense tropical peat-swamp forests of Kalimantan.

Itinerary

Day 1 – Arrival in Pangkalan Bun – Transfer to Tanjung Puting National Park

Upon arrival at Iskandar Airport in Pangkalan Bun, our team will warmly welcome you and transfer you to Kumai Port where your traditional klotok houseboat is ready. Begin cruising along the Sekonyer River into Tanjung Puting National Park while enjoying the beautiful rainforest scenery and observing wildlife along the riverbanks.

In the afternoon, visit Tanjung Harapan Feeding Station to see semi-wild orangutans during feeding time. Continue cruising through the calm river surrounded by tropical jungle.

Overnight onboard the klotok.

Day 2 – Pondok Tanggui & Camp Leakey Exploration

After breakfast onboard, continue your river cruise upstream to Pondok Tanggui Feeding Station, home to rehabilitated young orangutans. Enjoy a short jungle walk while observing the rich flora and fauna of the rainforest.

The journey continues to the legendary Camp Leakey, the oldest orangutan research and rehabilitation center in Borneo. Trek through the forest with your guide and witness orangutans in their natural habitat while learning about conservation efforts and rainforest ecology.

Return to the klotok in the afternoon and enjoy sunset on the river.

Day 3 – Return to Pangkalan Bun – Overland Transfer to Kereng Pakahi

Enjoy a relaxing morning cruise back down the Sekonyer River while spotting wildlife along the way. After arriving at Kumai Port, transfer back to Pangkalan Bun and continue the journey by private car to Kereng Pakahi (Around 9-10 hours), a small riverside village near Sebangau National Park.

The overland journey offers a chance to experience the landscapes and local life of Central Kalimantan. Upon arrival, check in at the guesthouse and enjoy free time surrounded by the peaceful atmosphere of the rainforest.

Day 4 – Sebangau National Park Jungle Trekking & Wildlife Exploration

After breakfast, begin exploring Sebangau National Park by traditional canoe or small boat through its unique blackwater river ecosystem. Continue with jungle trekking accompanied by experienced local guides in search of wild orangutans, gibbons, red langurs, hornbills, and other endemic wildlife.

Learn about the importance of peat-swamp forest conservation and the biodiversity of one of the world’s largest tropical peatland ecosystems. Enjoy the untouched beauty and quieter atmosphere compared to other destinations in Borneo.

Return to the lodge in the afternoon.

Day 5 – Morning Wildlife Trek – Return to Palangka Raya

After breakfast, enjoy one final morning jungle walk for wildlife observation and birdwatching. Early morning is one of the best times to spot wildlife activity in the forest canopy.

Return to camp, pack your belongings, and travel back by canoe and car toward Palangka Raya. On the way back, there is an optional stop at Kaja Island, managed by the Borneo Orangutan Survival Foundation (BOSF), where rehabilitated orangutans can sometimes be seen from the river.

Arrival in Palangka Raya is expected in the late afternoon or evening, followed by transfer to your hotel or airport.
